Roof & Gutter Maintenance in Shelter Cove
This Shelter Cove project included moss removal and treatment across approximately 1,900 square feet of asphalt-shingle roofing, along with cleaning 82 linear feet of second-story gutters. The gutters contained accumulated organic debris along with established ice plant, daisies, thistles and other vegetation that needed to be carefully removed. With an 8:12 roof pitch, proper harness and fall-protection equipment was used while completing the roof work. After the visible moss was removed, a moss treatment was applied across the roof, and the gutters were cleared and checked as part of the cleaning process.
The finished project left the roof clean and treated and the gutters cleared, helping the homeowner stay ahead of the moss and vegetation that are common around our wet, coastal Humboldt County environment.
PROJECT DETAILS
Services: Roof Moss Removal • Moss Treatment • Gutter Cleaning
Location: Shelter Cove, California
Property: Residential
Roof: Asphalt Shingle • 8:12 Pitch
Approx. Roof Size: 1,900 sq. ft.
Gutters: 82 linear ft. • Second Story
Moss had established itself across this steep Shelter Cove roof, with heavier growth visible along the shingle edges and lower sections.
After carefully removing the moss, the difference was immediate—the shingles were visible again and the roof had a much cleaner, maintained appearance.
Another section shows just how widespread the moss growth had become across the approximately 1,900-square-foot roof.
The same section after moss removal and cleanup. Once the visible growth was removed, we applied a moss treatment across the roof to help inhibit regrowth
Established ice plant, daisies, thistles and other vegetation had taken root among the accumulated debris in these second-story gutters. The dense growth was carefully removed to clear the gutter channel.
After carefully pulling out the vegetation and removing the accumulated debris underneath, the gutter was open and functional again
With an 8:12 pitch, this roof was too steep to safely walk normally. Proper harness and fall-protection setup was required to access the roof and complete the work safely.
The finished result: visible moss removed, roof treated, gutters cleared and a dramatic transformation against the Shelter Cove coastline.
Staying Ahead of Roof Moss in Shelter Cove
Shelter Cove's coastal moisture creates conditions where moss and other organic growth can return over time, even after a roof has been thoroughly cleaned. Keeping an eye on early growth and staying on top of gutters before debris and vegetation become established can make ongoing maintenance much more manageable.
Regular roof and gutter maintenance can help address organic growth early, keep drainage systems clear and make it easier to care for your home's exterior over time. If you're unsure what your property needs, SoftWash 707 can take a look and recommend an approach based on the roof, gutters and current conditions.
