FAQs

What is soft washing?

Soft washing is a low-pressure exterior cleaning method that uses professional cleaning solutions to remove organic growth such as algae, mold, mildew, moss, and other buildup. Instead of relying on high pressure to blast a surface clean, soft washing treats the growth at its source while using much gentler water pressure.

How is soft washing different from pressure washing?

Pressure washing relies primarily on high-pressure water and is best suited for durable surfaces such as concrete and certain hardscapes.

Soft washing uses low pressure combined with cleaning solutions and is better suited for more delicate surfaces such as roofing, siding, stucco, painted surfaces, and other areas where excessive pressure could cause damage.

At SoftWash 707, we choose the cleaning method based on the surface being cleaned.

Will soft washing damage my roof or siding?

Soft washing is specifically designed to clean delicate exterior surfaces using much lower pressure than traditional pressure washing.

We evaluate the material and condition of the surface before cleaning and adjust our process accordingly. This allows us to remove organic growth without unnecessarily blasting shingles, siding, paint, seals, or other exterior materials with high-pressure water.

What surfaces can SoftWash 707 clean?

We provide exterior cleaning for a wide variety of residential and commercial surfaces, including:

  • Roofs

  • House siding

  • Gutters

  • Concrete

  • Driveways and walkways

  • Patios

  • Exterior windows

  • Solar panels

  • Skylights

  • Storefronts and commercial buildings

  • Signs and awnings

  • Agricultural and industrial equipment

Not every surface is cleaned the same way. We determine whether soft washing, pressure washing, purified-water cleaning, or another method is appropriate for the job.

Do you remove roof moss?

Yes. Roof moss removal is one of our specialties.

Humboldt County's damp climate creates ideal conditions for moss, algae, and lichen to grow on roofs. We can remove heavy moss buildup and treat remaining organic growth while using cleaning methods designed to protect the roofing material.

My insurance company sent me a letter about moss on my roof. Can you help?

Yes. We frequently work with homeowners who have been asked by their insurance company to address moss or organic growth on their roof.

We can inspect the roof, recommend the appropriate cleaning or moss-removal service, and provide before-and-after photos when requested.

Because every insurance company has its own requirements, we can't guarantee how an insurer will respond, but we can help you get the property cleaned and the visible issue addressed.

Do you clean gutters?

Yes. We remove leaves, moss, dirt, and other debris from gutters so water can drain properly.

Gutter cleaning is especially important before and during Humboldt's wet season, when clogged gutters can overflow and send water into areas where it doesn't belong.

How often should I have my house washed?

For many homes, professional exterior cleaning every one to two years is a good starting point.

Homes surrounded by redwoods, located in shaded areas, or exposed to Humboldt's damp conditions may develop algae, mildew, spider webs, and other buildup more quickly and may benefit from more frequent cleaning.

Do you clean driveways and concrete?

Yes. We clean driveways, sidewalks, patios, entryways, and other concrete surfaces.

Depending on the surface and type of buildup, we use professional pressure-washing and surface-cleaning equipment to remove dirt, algae, moss, and other contaminants.

Do you clean solar panels and skylights?

Yes. We offer professional solar panel and skylight cleaning using appropriate equipment and cleaning methods for each surface.

Removing dirt, pollen, dust, organic buildup, and other debris helps keep these surfaces clean and clear without unnecessary high pressure.

Do you clean exterior windows?

Yes. Exterior window cleaning can be scheduled on its own or added to other exterior-cleaning services.

This is especially convenient when you're already having your house, roof, solar panels, or commercial building cleaned.

Do you clean commercial properties?

Yes. SoftWash 707 provides exterior cleaning for commercial buildings, storefronts, property managers, HOAs, and other commercial properties.

Services can include building washing, roof cleaning, gutters, sidewalks and entryways, exterior windows, solar panels, signage, awnings, dumpster areas, and other exterior surfaces.

We can also discuss recurring maintenance schedules for commercial properties.

Are your cleaning solutions safe around landscaping?

Protecting landscaping and surrounding property is an important part of our process.

Professional exterior-cleaning solutions must be handled and applied correctly. We use appropriate dilution, application, rinsing, and property-protection procedures based on the job and the surrounding vegetation.

Can I bundle several services together?

Absolutely.

Many customers have us take care of several exterior-cleaning projects during the same visit, such as a house wash, gutters, roof cleaning, concrete, windows, or solar panels.

Ask us about bundling services when requesting your estimate.

Do you offer chimney cleaning?

Yes. SoftWash 707 also offers chimney cleaning. If you're preparing your home for the colder months, ask us about adding chimney cleaning to your other fall or winter exterior-maintenance services.

Do you provide free estimates?

Yes. Contact us for a free estimate.

We often quote based on measurements, photos, and the condition of the property. For some projects, we may need additional photos or an on-site visit before confirming the final price.

SoftWash 707 is locally owned and serves Humboldt County and surrounding areas, including Eureka, Arcata, McKinleyville, Fortuna, Ferndale, Rio Dell, Miranda, Garberville, Redway, Shelter Cove, and communities throughout the North Coast.
