Skylight Cleaning
Let the natural light back in.
Skylights are designed to bring natural light into your home or building, but their location also means they collect plenty of dirt. Rain residue, pollen, dust, bird droppings, moss, algae, tree debris, and other buildup can gradually leave skylights cloudy and dull.
SoftWash 707 provides exterior skylight cleaning for homes and commercial properties, using cleaning methods appropriate for the skylight material, surrounding roof, and accessibility of the property.
Why Clean Your Skylights?
Because skylights are overhead and often difficult to access, they can easily be forgotten during routine cleaning.
As exterior buildup accumulates, it can reduce the clarity of the skylight and affect the amount of natural light entering the space below.
Cleaning helps remove:
Dirt and dust
Pollen and tree debris
Bird droppings
Moss and algae
Spider webs
Exterior grime and residue
A clean skylight can make a surprisingly noticeable difference from inside the property.
Why Skylights Get So Dirty in Humboldt
North Coast properties are surrounded by many of the things that contribute to dirty skylights.
Our combination of rain, moisture, pollen, tree cover, birds, and organic debris means skylights can collect buildup throughout the year. Skylights near redwoods and other heavy vegetation may be especially prone to debris and organic growth.
Their position on the roof can also make them inconvenient for property owners to safely reach and clean themselves.
How We Clean Skylights
Not every skylight is made from the same material.
Depending on the property, skylights may be glass, acrylic, polycarbonate, or another material. SoftWash 707 evaluates the skylight and surrounding area before choosing an appropriate cleaning method.
We use gentle cleaning techniques, appropriate brushes, and low pressure to remove exterior buildup while taking care around the skylight surface, frame, seals, flashing, and surrounding roofing materials.
When appropriate, purified water can also be used to help provide a clean finish without leaving unnecessary mineral residue behind.
Can Cleaning Fix a Cloudy Skylight?
Sometimes a skylight looks cloudy because it's simply dirty. Other times, the problem may be within the skylight itself.
Oxidation, scratches, aging plastic, failed seals, condensation between panes, mineral staining, or other permanent conditions may remain visible after exterior cleaning.
Cleaning removes exterior buildup, but it does not repair damaged seals, restore deteriorated materials, or correct problems inside the skylight.
If we notice an obvious condition that appears to be more than surface dirt, we'll let you know.
A Natural Addition to Roof Maintenance
Skylight cleaning pairs especially well with roof washing, roof moss removal, gutter cleaning, solar panel cleaning, and exterior window cleaning.
Since we're already working around some of the hardest-to-reach areas of the property, combining services can be a convenient way to take care of several maintenance items during the same project.
Ready to Let More Light In?
